Locals rave about tours of McCain’s largest US production facility.
Last Friday, October 3rd, McCain welcomed more than 50 local students, professionals, and politicians for tours at its largest US manufacturing plant in honor of National Manufacturing Day. Participants were given a unique glimpse behind-the-scenes of our expansive 100,000-square-foot facility, where they discovered how sheets of metal are flawlessly transformed into everyday products.
Affectionately called “Auto”, our Amada ASTRO II auto bending machine was an attendee favorite. Auto’s dual mechanical arms moved with robotic precision to pick up raw materials, form it into new shapes, and create a stack of finished pieces for an operator. See Auto in action.
“We are beyond grateful for the opportunity to showcase our facility to such a diverse group from the local community,” said McCain’s marketing manager, Trisha Reddan. “Hopefully, we have helped dispel some of the age-old misconceptions about our industry, encouraged students to take a second look at careers in manufacturing, and generated excitement about what’s being made right here in San Diego.”
A big “Thank You” to everyone that turned out for the event. Check out all the event photos on our Facebook page or view highlights in the picture gallery below. See tour highlights and what participants had to say in this short video.
McCain, who joined forces with the San Diego Regional Economic Development Council (EDC) and San Diego North EDC, was one of more than 40 companies in San Diego County to open their doors to the local community. Around the nation, nearly 1,600 events took place from Hawaii to Maine. The craze even spread internationally, with manufacturers opening their doors in Mexico, Puerto Rico, and Vancouver, making this the most successful Manufacturing Day yet.
